Enter the chaotic world of Kevin Chan (aka Yoshi, Chanman and Jesus)

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

Post could also be labeled as “Lazy, Lazy, Lazy”.

So, there is quite a haul of pictures.

Last Sunday, a bunch of us went to the recently reopened California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Although we did not go to the planetarium (long lines and Shareena apparently got motion sick in the old one…and the new one looks even more motion sick-able), we did enjoy everything else. They got Penguins, a Rainforest dome (where we witnessed a butterfly getting attacked by the fish after it somehow got stuck on the surface of the water) and an albino alligator.

Shareena and I also managed to stop by Seattle earlier this month and avoided the rain (for the most part). We stayed at the wonderful Greenlake Guest House (which was right across the street from the lake/park) and managed to hike in the Cascade mountains (and spotted a woodpecker along the way – see if you can spot it…it was pretty dark in the forest).

Here are some more pictures:

Seeing the date of the last set of photos, I really do feel lazy.

Another Bathroom Remodel Delay and LA Trip

July 17th, 2006 yoshers

I know it has been awhile, but I finally have a moment to catch my breath. So here it goes.

Another Bathroom Remodel Delay

Well, shockingly, this time no one had to back out due to strange injuries to their contractors. Instead, it was merely a simple case to total incompetence.

  • Salesperson comes out, quotes $8,000
  • Salesperson goes on vacation (extended weekend)
  • Cannot contact salesperson, call owner
  • Owner gets rude, says salesperson underquoted, says $8,000 is ridiculous, quotes $16,000
  • Geez, that was fun

So now, we are set for mid-August with another contractor…hopefully, this one will go well!

LA Trip

Shareena and I headed down to Los Angeles (we stayed in Santa Monica) over the fourth of July weekend for a little getaway and my cousin Vivian’s wedding reception at Cafe Bizou.

Of course, nothing ever goes as planned and I was pretty much sick (I have concluded that it was some bad mushrooms in my ramen that I had for lunch prior to flying down to LA), so I was pretty much not eating more than a few bites and feeling weak all trip.

Nonetheless, Shareena and I managed to mix in family and some time away from the family. In addition to seeing my cousins at Vivian’s wedding reception and other going-ons (like lunch and dinner with family on Sunday), Shareena and I managed to spend some time in Santa Monica and Hollywood (we took my cousins Jack and Angie with us).

For pictures, here is the Santa Monica 2006 gallery.

Some other highlights included Eugene and Natasha’s five month old triplets (pictures will be posted whenever I get them) and a very lovely day at the beach on Monday.

Well, that’s it for now. Tune in next time for my business trip to Boulder and plans for August in Vancouver/Seattle.

A Long Time Coming

July 12th, 2004 yoshers

After a bit over one month back in Berkeley, things are back the way they should be. I am getting settled into my job back at UC Berkeley with Educational Technology Services (ETS) as a Systems Administrator. Even better yet, I am no longer being paid peanuts to support the entire IT department for my group. Of course, the challenge now is to standardize and stablize the environment at my new job while juggling learning new things and carrying on new projects. The most fun part is dealing with more instances of Microsoft software, something that I would much rather not see much of when I work.

Along the home front, the house is getting back to normal also with the return of Shareena and myself. Shareena has been busy cleaning up the inside of the house with some help from Olivia, while I have been cleaning up the yard that has grown unkempt for the better part of nine months. So far, things are going well on the inside and the outside is slowly coming around as well. Other than the occassional large boxes (for a new desk for Shareena and a dresser for Swati’s room), Shareena stuff is stacked inside her room and so the house no longer suffers from clutter mania.

So the next steps for me are to start playing basketball again at the RSF and to try to get Shareena outside and exercising some more now that she has cleaned up the house and will have some time to take a break from school/work and do some stuff that she likes (reading, sleeping, cooking) along with some research to do some minor home improvements. So it should be some more good times as things get back to normal.

Missing Home

April 17th, 2004 yoshers

Maybe it is the fact that Shareena really misses our home or perhaps I never really had a home before, but although the weather is getting warmer in Chicago, I am ready to go back to Berkeley.

I guess a lot of it has to do with the house and the fact that the garden is probably looking like a complete mess right now and all the little things that need to be fixed (hopefully, I will have to go back to Berkeley before the end of June to do some spring cleaning). Otherwise, I guess I really miss the weather, the culture, and all the things that you can do in California that you cannot get in just one place.

It will also be nice to have a big kitchen with those nice slate floor panels and the granite/marble counter top. Also, the nice wood finish of the house sure beats the crummy white and purple walls that we have at our apartment (not to mention to pink/purple hallway decor on each floor of the building). The cats will be glad that they have lots of room to run around again.
