Kevin’s Berkeley-Chicago Roadtrip, Part Four

I feel like a serial writer as I left off my last blog entry with a cliffhanger. Also, I guess I am still not really doing a “blog” as these events happen over a month ago! But it is a long story and sometimes long stories take a long time to start and finish. Without further ado, here is the thrilling conclusion to my Chicago roadtrip.

So what did I do upon arriving at my apartment Friday with a car load of stuff to haul in, but the building management tells me that I can’t? I just started to truck it up by myself…let’s just call it a very large shopping trip. For the most part, nobody really cared (partly since it was the weekend and all the building management people were gone), although the security guards were a bit concerned (the apartment complex is pretty well secured with only two points of entry for over 500 apartments spread over two very large buildings). In the end, I manage to lug up all of the stuff before Saturday morning (yes, even Shareena’s 100 pound box of soaps, shampoos and other bathroom products), though it must have taken my over 25 trips at least! It was a good thing two as Shareena and her mom (along with our two cats) and their luggage took up much of the storage space in the car.

Finally, we got settled into our apartment (though I left the on Monday!). We, however, found out about further restrictions with our apartment building as we were unable to arrange a time for our mattress to be delivered (so that Shareena’s mom would be able to sleep on it) on Saturday. Apparently, you are suppose to give the building people 24 hour notice (which is odd, since many delivery companies do not give 24 hour notice) and you can only schedule these large deliveries Mon-Fri 9-5 and Sat. 9-1. Unfortunately, our mattress was scheduled for “12-2″…and as I felt that I had already pushed my luck enough with lugging a carload of stuff, so Shareena and I decided that it is not worth trying our luck on this endeavor.

All in all, it was great fun and hassle…but alas, the story must end and I had to return to Berkeley and work on Monday. I will post more stuff about Chicago as they come!
