Enter the chaotic world of Kevin Chan (aka Yoshi, Chanman and Jesus)

Let us first review my last of to do:

At home:
1. Write letter to Hong Kong – argh…
2. Clean up yard – well, still in semi-done stage
3. Send Dad his gifts – yay, done!

At work:
1. Dual boot my laptop for next week’s conference – no problems here
2. Work on Video Catalog Application – still going…

Well, I guess it wasn’t 100%…or even really 50%, so I shall strive to do better. But at least I am keeping my website updated with new content!

The SANS Institute was pretty fun. Although much of it was review, there was a lot of policy and even actual computer security stuff that I learned. I decided to do the GSEC certification so that I have more grounding in the computer security part of my resume. It is pretty hard to convince people to hire you because you can secure computers because most people’s priority is just getting things done. This is really the downfall of technology right now, but it is improving.

Things that need to be done:

At home:
1. Write letter to Hong Kong
2. Clean up yard
3. Send Dad his gifts

At work:
1. Dual boot my laptop for next week’s conference
2. Work on Video Catalog Application

I am sure there are other stuff, but these are what I should be doing rather than procrastinating. Incidentally, if you are wondering what “conference” I am talking about, it is a Computer Security Training course hosted by the SANS institute. It should be fun to learn new stuff (that are practical…unlike most of college) and even more fun considering that it was paid for by my employer (UC Berkeley).

I feel like I want to do a more daily type of blog. Of course, this would require either 1) my finding some code or producing my own code so I can make entering blog entries really easy (meaning, I do not have to edit html, I can just type in stuff in a box and hit “submit”) and 2) my actually finding a real hosting place and pay for it. I think I am actually getting closer and closer to that point, but am too cheap to pay for it! I can see it now…”www.jjk.net”

Of course, I could put my blog section on my work’s homepage and use my work’s servers to do my bidding. Alas, I have a conscience, unlike some members of our clan, and would not feel bad, but would rather find a better option.

June 2001 Advisory – Starting Anew

June 1st, 2003 yoshers
  1. After a period of troubling times, it is important to consider those times. People say “put the past in the past”, but the past and mistakes are always important learning tools as well as a starting point for better things.
  2. Regimentation is probably overrated, but it is another thing that is necessary to have some foundation from which to begin.
  3. The suggestion is one to find one that is eternal, but to recognize these motivational “states”. That is, look at why you are motivated and how long this particular motivation will last before doing something quite silly.

Random Summer-ness

  1. Summer means less rain, which in turn means if you have a garden in Northern California, now is the time to work on it.
  2. After you are out of school, summers become just like any other season. This could be good as you do not have to worry about what to do for 3 months (and I do not suggest vegging out and play games all summer). However, this is also bad as you do not have 3 months to do whatever you want.
  3. Do not waste the sunshine, get out of the house.
